JOHANNESBURG

AWARENESS
As part of our launch in Johanesburg, there are a number of activities we will be engaging in.  Street awareness days are a great way to make members of the general public aware of who we are.  The strategy is to have at least one street awareness day a month where staff hand out flyers to passing motorists.  The I Care car sticker campaign will be introduced as part of these awareness days and is a constant reminder to motorists and children on the streets, of I Care's availiability to assist them.  The car sticker is placed in the lower right hand corner of the windscreen and when a street child begs at a motorists window, they merely point to the sticker and the child knows where to get help from.  The stickers are given to anyone who donates in kind or financially.  We have booked our first Golf Day at the Bryanston Country Club for the 22nd of July 2011 and would appreciate as much support as we can get at this event.  Watch this space for more awareness functions in Jo'burg!

 OUTREACH

At the beginning of February this year we moved from the premises at Melville Union Church in Auckland Park to a Scout hall at No. 91 Caroline Street in Brixton. The acquisition of the Scout Hall and the new Avanza Toyota went a long way in increasing our capacity. We have stepped up our outreach increasing from 5 boys in February to 15 boys in May.

REHABILITATION (KZN)

In February seven boys joined a group of boys in Durban for a three months rehabilitation course. Sadly, four of them pulled out of the programme because they felt they were not yet ready for it and although dissappointed at first, we respect their honesty and pray they will be ready soon. The three that remained have since graduated and returned to join their families.  They were eager to return to school as well.

HOUSING & SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Two of our participants  are engaged in skills training. One is doing motor Mechanics at St Antony’s Skills training centre in Boksburg while the other is doing a drama course with a Youth Empowerment group based at Wits University. He recently auditioned for an upcomining soapy and was successful!
